Have you noticed unusual activity in your Wi-Fi router? Chances are your neighbor or somebody nearby is surfing using your bandwidth.
This is unfair to you because you are paying monthly and they are using it for free, the good thing you should do regularly is to change your router password with hard to guess WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) passphrase and avoid using WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) which is easier to crack by hackers.

If you don’t know how to change your router password, you will learn in this article by following the steps given. Please note that I used Dlink DIR 300 router in this tutorial. Make sure to refer to the manufacturer’s manual before you proceed.
How to change WiFi Password using DLink DIR 300 Step 1: Connect to the D-Link Router Wired Connection : Connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable for a more stable connection. Wireless Connection : Alternatively, connect to your D-Link DIR-300 via WiFi using your current network credentials. Step 2: Open the Router’s Web Interface Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge). In the address bar, type the router’s default IP address: Default IP Address : 192.168.0.1
Press Enter . This will take you to the router’s login page. Step 3: Log in to the Router You will be prompted for a username and password.
Default Username : admin
Default Password : admin

Step 4: Access Wireless Settings After logging in, look for the Wireless tab or section in the main menu. Depending on the firmware version of the DIR-300 router, this option could be under Setup or in the Wireless section in the left-hand menu. Click on Wireless Settings or Wireless Setup . Step 5: Change the WiFi Password Under the Wireless Setup, find the section labeled Wireless Security Mode .
If this isn’t visible, look for a sub-option called Manual Wireless Connection Setup . In this section, find the Pre-Shared Key or Passphrase field. This is where your current WiFi password is stored. Delete the current password and enter your new desired password .
Ensure your password is strong (a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols) to improve network security. Step 6: Save the Changes After entering the new password, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save or Apply . The router will likely restart or briefly disconnect to apply the new settings. Step 7: Reconnect to the WiFi Network Once the new password is saved:
Disconnect from the WiFi network on your devices. Reconnect using the new password. Troubleshooting Forgotten Login Credentials : If you can’t remember your router’s login details, you may need to reset the router to factory settings by pressing and holding the Reset button (usually located at the back of the router) for about 10 seconds. Default Credentials Not Working : If the default admin credentials (admin
/ admin
) don’t work, they might have been changed earlier. In that case, resetting the router as mentioned above can restore the default username and password. By following these steps, you should now have successfully changed your WiFi password on your D-Link DIR-300 router!
